Objectives

The Rice Congress will serve as a unique platform for all those involved in rice R&D for sub-Saharan Africa to discuss the competing paradigms and strategies in rice crop improvement and associated technologies, technology transfer and technology dissemination pathways, adoption and impact studies, natural resource management and integrated pest management. The partnership arrangements and the network structures to be used to achieve higher adoption of rice technologies will be examined.

The main objectives are to:

  • Assess the crop improvement and complementary technologies developed over the last decade with a view to developing new directions/approaches

  • Evaluate various partnership models for research and technology dissemination in the context of global challenges to research funding

  • Identify priority areas for partnerships to improve rice research and its impact on food security and poverty reduction.

  • Identify innovative approaches to organizing and financing (including private sector) partnerships for rice research and development in Africa.
